Otava was established in 1997 as a subdivision of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics (NAS of Ukraine) and specializes in the synthesis and supply of high-quality novel organic compounds on a non-exclusive basis. Now it is a start-up, creative, dynamic and privately held company that is specialized in drug discovery technologies, custom synthesis and development of fluorescent dyes for biomedical research.
Their philosophy and vision is to launch collaboration of Ukrainian academic scientists with chemical, agrochemical and pharmaceutical companies. Their technology is based on great experience of Ukrainian chemists in the field of classic and modern organic chemistry and wide cooperation with Ukrainian academic institutes.
The company employs 30 people; 11 of them have a PhD degree. Otava has experience in various chemical techniques within its well-equipped laboratories.
Otava provide a wide range of quality products and services for lead discovery and optimization. Search and development of the novel highly efficient fluorescent probes for biological and medical use also belong to the main activities of the company.

In-House Stock (Tangible) Compound Collection
There are 152,005 compounds in the In-house Stock database (Mar 2007)
All compounds from the in-house stock collection have undergone quality control by 1H-NMR to confirm their chemical structure. The purity is at the least 90% and delivery within 2 weeks. They offer the possibility of a re-supply of compounds purchased from them. All compounds are available on a cherry-pick basis in vials and/or microtiter plates in the amounts designated by customers (0.1 - 1,000mg). To develop new promising compounds they collaborate with more than 200 chemists from many laboratories in Ukraine and Russia.

There are 21.988 compounds in the synthesis on request database (Mar 2007)
Any compound ordered from this library can be synthesized and delivered in about 4-6 weeks.
Other Collections
There are a number of other databases such as Virtual Compounds, Combinatorial Building Blocks and the Green Collection compound library, which are prepared on the basis of In-house Stock library and pre-formatted by Lipinsky “rules of five” (LogP from –1 to 5, MW from 100 to 500, number of H-donors from 0 to 5, number of H-acceptors from 0 to 9, number of NO2 groups from 0 to 3).
