Generating a Name

The program is able to:

Generate a Name according to IUPAC rules
Generate an Index name according to CAS rules

Structure- and source-based names for polymer structures
Coordination compounds including:

Neutral and anionic compounds
Cyclopentadienyl complexes like ferrocenes

Expanded naming of natural and biochemical compounds to include:

Porphyrins, phthalocyanines, porphyranzines, and phorbines
Nucleotides and nucleosides

From the ChemSketch window, draw a molecule then click on either the I-Lab button (bottom left) or the I-Lab menu option at the top and hold your mouse over Naming

Click on the appropriate option
to produce either a IUPAC name
or an Index name.

IUPAC Name

If you choose IUPAC name then a window should appear with various tabs and options. For example the Common tab Most of the options are either YES or NO The lower part will often show an example.
The other tabs are Old/New
Structure The options are
Custom

Click on OK when finished.

Index Name

When you choose Index Name a

window appears with similar YES/NO

and Stereoconfiguration options

Click on OK when finished.

A window should appear with the drawn structure and name which can be printed or inserted into the ChemSketch window.
