The main service machine is: cds.dl.ac.uk

Before any component of the CDS service can be used , the user must first log on to the CDS computer.

X-Windows

  • Conquest, Isostar, Mercury, VISTA, Mogul

Note:Users can no longer use rlogin to log on to the latest CDS machine.
CDS now supports slogin for secure shell access.
Users unable to gain access to the service due to their on-site firewall can access the service via secure shell. Our current recommendations for X-Windows emulator are eXodus for Macs and eXceed for PCs. Details of how to Set up eXceed on a PC to log-on directly to CDS can be found in our FAQ database.

Secure Shell (SSH)

A Java applet ssh client is available here. This will allow you to log on through your Java enabled browser without needing an ssh client on your machine.

When used with an X-Window emulator (see above), it provides a more secure way to access databases available only via X-Windows. Details on how to set up such a secure shell session using PuTTY are available.

Secure FTP

If you want to transfer your files saved on the CDS server you need to use a secure ftp client (ordinary ftp will not work). There are a number of freely available clients such as WinSCP for Windows.

Client/Server

  • Detherm (Thermophysical Properties Database).
  • Isostar (Knowledge base of non-bonded interactions)
  • ChemSketch for I-Lab (Spectroscopy and Physical Chemistry searching and prediction)
