Important Service announcement

The CDS at Daresbury is scheduled to terminate at the end of 2012

Dear Colleague

Funding from the EPSRC for the Chemical Database Service at Daresbury
ceases at the end of December 2012. There remains the distinct
probability that we will not be able to provide user access beyond
that point.

Negotiations involving the EPSRC, the Royal Society of Chemistry (the
preferred bidder to provide a future service) and the STFC have not as
yet reached a satisfactory conclusion.

There have been various assurances that the RSC will be in a
position to provide a full replacement service starting on the 1st
January 2013. We still have, however, received no meaningful
information on the nature and scope of any of the proposed services
offered by the RSC.

As members of the CDS team at Daresbury we appreciate that this is a
highly unsatisfactory situation, and regret the inevitable uncertainty
felt by our user community. However, this all involves circumstances
beyond our control.

In the interim we will provide further information as and when we
receive it. Please keep an eye on the CDS homepage, follow us on
